Pulsbreddmodulerad

Pulsbreddmodulerad signal används ofta vid motorstyrning. Signalen har jämn amplitud men frekvensen ändras. Vid höjd frekvens ökar effektinnehållet och elmotorn får mer ström och kan uträtta mer arbete. Modulationen kan vara av olika typ. Den kan vara sinus-, fyrkant- eller sågtandsformad. Pulsbreddmodulering kan även användas vid överföring av små signaler från givare på stora avstånd där en relativt spänningsoberoende signal säkerställer kommunikationen. En klass AB- eller klass B- förstärkare som har en pulsbreddmodulerad insignal och har en negativ och en positiv spänningsmatning kan på så vis styra en växelströmsmotor. Naturligtvis kan man även samtidigt ändra amplituden men då borde det heta amplitud- och pulsbreddsmodulerad. En FM-signal är frekvensmodulerad och en AM-signal är amplitudmodulerad.
