Representation of the People Act 1884In the United Kingdom, The Representation of the People Act of 1884 (48 Vict. c. 3, also known as the Third Reform Act) and the Redistribution Act of the following year were a response to the inequality in the electoral system left by Benjamin Disraeli's 1867 Act. Taken together, these measures extended the same voting qualifications as existed in the towns and countryside, and essentially established the modern one member constituency as the normal pattern for parliamentary representation.
The act extended the 1867 concessions from the boroughs to the countryside. All men paying an annual rental of £10 or all those holding land valued at £10 now had the vote. The British electorate now totaled over 5,500,000. An act a year later redistributed constituencies, giving more representation to urban areas (especially London).
The 1884 Reform Act sought to enfranchise the morally worthy and industrious. Athough the size of the electorate was widened considerably, 40% of adult males were still without the vote at the time.

Representation of the People Act 1928The Representation of the People Act 1928 expanded on the act of the same name of a decade earlier. It widened suffrage by setting women on equal footing with men. Prior to this act women over 30 who met minimum property qualifications could vote, however men who were eligible to vote could do so from age 21.
Representation of the People Act 1969The Representation of the People Act 1969 increased suffrage to 18 year olds. Previously only those over the age of 21 were legally permitted to vote.

Representation of the People Act 2000The Representation of the People Act 2000 changes the British electoral process in the following ways:
- Amends the 1983 Representation of the People Act.
- Disenfranchises inmates of mental hospitals.
- Requires that people with disabilities that would interfere with normal voting be given assistance.
- Provides for regulations to be made on the access to, sale and supply of electoral registers.
